History
Origins: Foundation of an elegant sanatorium in 1912 The origins of our “Fachklinik St. Georg” at Höchenschwand in the southern Black Forest go back to the year 1912. After a terrible fire, which occurred in 1910, the main edifice of the former “Kurhaus” (cure house), whose history can be traced back to the 14th century, was rebuilt and became a hotel. It was already in 1919 when the first medical service was set up there by Mr. Bernhard Porten sen. and Dr. Wilhelm Bettinger.
Construction of extensions in 1955 and in 1967 Mrs. Gisela Porten (2001) and Mr. Werner Porten (1998), who had taken over the clinic in 1950, had it extended and modernized by the construction of additional buildings. In order to meet modern medical requirements they built first in 1955 the “Kuranstalt und Fachklinik St. Georg” (sanatorium and specialized clinic). In 1967 the “St. Georg Privatkliniken” were extended by the construction of a swimming pool and of medical and therapeutic rooms. After the closure of the hotel and the integration of “Porten's Kurhaus” into the “St. Georg Privatkliniken”, the sanatorium got another modern annex building.
